GROUP ELECTRONICS PTY LIMITED established in 1964 to provide electronics engineering services to the industrial and scientific sectors of Australia & New Zealand, adopted an operations policy to diversify activity into sales applications and systems integration, which would draw upon the professional ability of management and staff.

 

This diversification has ensured direction into precise areas of electronics engineering; resources and information technology.   The direct representation of well-established international organizations in the resources and information disciplines, has enabled a significant transfer of technology, both in design and manufacture of equipment and systems, to Group Electronics.

 

The expansion of the company’s activity has achieved substantial sales of scientific and industrial electronics equipment during the past thirtyfive years.   Participation in major projects throughout Australia & New Zealand, including the largest projects in the Australian resources sector, the North West Shelf LNG facility and the   Western Australia Natural Gas Pipeline, contributed to the strength of the company.

 

Group Electronics has developed wide experience in control and engineering methods employed within the process, coal and metalliferous industries, providing maintenance support and engineering services to sites throughout Australia & New Zealand.    The client base includes every energy major; power utility; coal producer;  metalliferous miner and petrochemical  operator based throughout the region.

 

The company’s core activity embraces environmental engineering, electronic fire and gas detection equipment and systems, resources telemetry electronics and data acquisition.   This activity is supported by a service and maintenance back-up which is extremely effective and professional, being highly regarded by clients.   Unique experience has been acquired in the approval and certification of equipment to industrial standards.   A close relationship is maintained with organisations such as the Standards Association of Australia and the Department of Minerals & Energy.

 

With the introduction of new occupational health & safety legislation, emphasis is given to the promotion of instruments and equipment, nationally approved by Australian testing authorities, meeting the requirements of equipment and personnel protection.    Additionally, prescribed equipment for confined space entry is supplied, maintained and calibrated to NATA standards.   This service is widely sought by clients and is supported by an extensive range of instruments available for either short or long term hire.   Listed in the hire catalogue are gas detectors for coal mines; gas detectors for confined space entry; calibration gases; gas data loggers; sound level meters; noise dosimeters; heat stress monitors; air sampling pumps; indoor air quality monitors; pressure data loggers; radiation meters; digital dust monitors; submersible level/depth data loggers and transmitters.

 

Group Electronics operates from a modern, multi-level property, acquired as a permanent base for all business undertakings.   The offices and engineering facility comprise an architecturally designed asset of approximately 900 square metres, set onto landscaped amenities of approximately 2250 square metres.    Land area is available for continuous expansion, including planned construction of field installations for environmental testing of sensors and systems.

Engineering, design, development and servicing equipment comprise:-

 

Oscilloscopes, including multi-channel, high frequency, multi-trace instruments Computing equipment, both desk and laptop for field purposes, fitted with disk drives plotters and printers.   High performance calibration equipment for metrology with standard cell bridges, millivolt meters and portable field calibration equipment.  Calibrated optical and gas standards for base-line and field servicing of infra-red, ultra-violet and optical electronic fire detection equipment.  Gas analysing and detection equipment and systems.   Ultrasonic processing and cleaning equipment suitable for small to medium run production.   Pick and place equipment for PCB assembly and testing.   Comprehensive stock of spares and other materials, suitable for the maintenance and support of equipment already installed.   General laboratory equipment including Olympus microscopes and digital processing equipment.    Fabrication and assembly equipment suitable for the task of electronic engineering.

 

Group Electronics has participated in fortythree international exhibitions.  These exhibitions, usually located in state capitals and prime industrial locations, are often held in association with industrial and international trade organisations.    The programme for the forthcoming exhibition season will enable Group Electronics to display an excellent range of products throughout all states of Australia and in selected locations in New Zealand.   Particular emphasis is given to the release of instrumentation, which is enabled by protocols such as, ProfiBus; ModBus; FieldBus; DeviceNet; Hart and other communications device level buses.

The head office and test laboratories are located in corporately owned premises, adjacent to Moorabbin Airport, which enables rapid transport, support and unique speedy service from company owned aircraft.   Interstate visits are facilitated from this arrangement, and installed projects are maintained in Western Australia, Northern Territory, Queensland, and energy resource projects remote areas such as Alice Springs, Palm Valley and Tennant Creek.
